You're right. I have been looking them up on the met office site. Don't know what made think it was stratus. Think it is probably cirrus. Unless anyone knows different.Originally Posted by Rheghead
It looks like stratus fractus? So it may well have been stratus at one stage. It looks too low to be cirrus.

I think it could possibly be Stratocumulus.
Stratocumulus cloud is large blanket with visible 'blobby bits' and a visible shading from white at the top to grey underparts so I am inclined to disagree, however, clouds aren't black and white, they are a millions shades of grey so to speak.
