The last few years near Autumn have noticed fields with around 200 lapwings.
They obviously congregate before they fly south.
i was under the impression that lapwings had got very scarce in caithness
was down near sarclet loch the other night and there was a field seemed to be full of them
never seen so many in one place even in the old days, sure it was them as they had the toorie on there heads ??? tony

There used to be huge flocks of Lapwings congregating at this time of year, sometimes up to a 1000 birds in various parts of Caithness.

Yep nirofo, then they move off south to warmer climes, often as far as the Mediterranian.
