I would imagine that tourists would flock to Sutherland to see spaceship launches etc.

Maybe they would be better spending the money on encouraging small business development in the far north! But all the Star Trek trekkies on Caithness.org may disagree ....

About 25 years ago, maybe more, there was a study done on the feasibility of using the Dounreay site as a potential location for a launch pad. I recall it was in the Groat but can't find a reference for it.
