Looking to find parents for William BAIN. Am not sure of D of B but William married Christina MCKAY 29.12.1843 at Bower. They had 8 children, Agnes Fergus Bain(1855) John Bain(1846) James Bain(1843) Christina Bain(1846) Janet Bain(1848 ) Henrietta(1850) Alexander(1852) Jean(1857), Anybody know of this family?

Try doing a birth/christening search on http://www.familysearch.com for William Bain for about 1820 + or - say 5 years. You will find quite a few William Bains. If you assume they have named their children according to old Scottish naming conventions, you could assume that his father is called John. Not 100% accurate, but worth trying.

Thanks for replying. Do not have any David Bain`s in the line that I know of. There is an awful lot of Bain family`s in Caithness. Have an email address of someone who has a database of some Bain family`s. Please email me direct if you are interested. caraid68@aol.com.

    Thanks again

    Default William Bain c 1811-1816

This is most likely your William - onoy one in Bower in 1841

There is a member submission on the IGI for a William(Sinclair Weymss) Bain father Robert Bain mother Henrietta Bain? born Jul 15 1811 in Reaster which is more properly in Dunnet I believe.

William and Christian also had a son Robert Mackay or Bain in 1844 in Bower.

    1841 Census
    5 Records found

Piece: SCT1841/34 Place: Bower -Caithness Enumeration District: 4
Civil Parish: Bower Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: -
    Folio: 0 Page: 6
    Address: -

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Surname First name(s) Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks
BAIN Heneritta F 63 Widow Ag Lab Caithness
BAIN William M 25 Agricultural Labourer Caithness
BAIN Jannet F 20 Agricultural Labourer Caithness

SWANSON Heneritta F 8 Outside Census County (1841)
BEGG Alexander M 20 Agricultural Labourer Caithness

mother Heneritta /Hennie probably at Kirk, Bower in 1851
William and Christina in Old Thuro, Bower with John, Henrietta and Janet although here William is listed as born in Bower.

There is a Robert Bain aged 7 with a James Mckay 70( wife Jennet 68) family in Lyth, Bower as well. James Mckay may be related to Christina. I would think her father was quite likely named James.

William age 49 making the 1811 birth very likely and Christina 46 were at Brabsterdorran, Bower in 1861 with John, Janet, Henrietta, Agnes, Alexander and Jean.

Robert Bain age 17 is an apprentice blacksmith to a Donald Mackay most likely the son the above James Mckay.

Mother Henrietta appears to have died between 1851 and 1861.

    Hope that helps.

    Maryann
