It's actually a rather clever way of organising the past, present and future.

There are a series of numbers for each 'month', grouped in 12 blocks with names derived from Ancient Roman culture.

    It greatly facilitates appointment-making etc.

We've disabled the calendar feature on the forum (I should really remove the link as well) as we would prefer people to use the What's On for events. Once we are comfy in our new server, I'll look more closely at some of the other features the forum has to offer and what they could be used for.

There are so many 3rd party add ons for vBulletin forums. You should really look into some of them.

I use this chatbox on many forums that I have and it is great: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=201283

Also you might want to concider making different usergroups such as a 'gold usergroup' for people that have donated to the site and stuff like that.
