even more spam

I've started getting offensive mail that has my own email address in the 'from' box as well as in the 'to' box. How can I get mail from myself? AND the type I wouldn't even open let alone send! I have complained to my provider about it, but have had no feedback from them. Anyone else had this problem? At least I managed to stop getting the daily prayer.

I had this same annoying problem. As I look at all my mail in Outlook Express, I needed to get rid of the spam before it got to my machine. I logged onto my webmail and set-up filters to delete messages from myself, messages containing 'Casino', messages containing 'Viagra' etc. It took a while but has made a big difference. Every now and again I get more messages, but I just add a few more filters as appropriate. You won't beat spam but you can get a few steps ahead.

I have been getting these type of e-mail for 2 years now. I no longer just download by my Outlook Express. I go to my webmail and delete any and as much Spam as I can and then and only then will I download my mail to Outlook Express.

I also have filters in place etc but I still am getting Hundreds of Spam a Day so it is neccessary to delete them before they can be downloaded.

Another way of getting round spammers is to create an email address which contains numbers and letters. For example, catherine.jones@blabla.com is quite easy for a computer program to generate whereas cj14lyb@blabla.com can be a better option.

I had an address some years back and it was bombarded with rubbish. I scrapped it in the end and started a new one. I ran the two in parallel until I was happy that all my genuine contacts and mailers were aware of my new address.

Another idea is to use one address for correspondence etc. and then use another one if you are asked to enter an address anywhere.

That is a Good idea but in my case does not work as I use my ISP for e-mail and as long as everything after the @ symbol is correct I will receive the mail. So even if a mail is addressed to :-

and everything after the @ is correct I still receive. So I receive loads of Spam.

Set up a webmail such as hotmail gmail or yahoo and use it, when you start getting too many spam emails just make up a new one. This forum is the only place I have given my ISP address as it wont accept webmails to set up an account. I dont get any spam emails to my isp account I only get emails from my ISP.

One way that your email address gets picked up by spammers is all these emails that get forwarded on with lists and lists of emails still left on it. If you must forward on emails it is good internet etticate to delete all the email addresses from it before you send it on. I also tend to send emails out as BCC so that there is no list of emails to get picked up by spammers

those things do get sent to my spam folder which I check in case something i want has been sent there, which has happened. do you mean I should set up filters that delete them before they even appear in my spam folders? if so , how do I do that?

That doesn't work. The spammers are harvesting the email addresses from the headers of the emails, where the BCC addresses are still stored.

They get it returned by BT telling them their mail was undeliverable as the eamail address doesn't exist.

I started getting lots of spam from myself a while ago and always just deleted it (I use OE as well) and after a while it stopped but I've had a few more lately. All my other spam stopped after I downloaded an MS security patch (the one when MS got in a panic) which is weird.

At least if you have a good spam filter, which I do, most of it goes in a separate folder. It's really horrid getting lots of it - feels like you're being invaded.
