    Default Help tracing the family

    Greetings all,

I'm wondering if anyone can offer advice on where next I can try, to confirm my family's supposed link to the Clan Gunn.

My grandmother was a Wilson and my late father had done some limited research which caused him to believe she/we were "connected" to the Gunns. I've tried to confirm this, but can only go back as far as the birth of my g g grandfather, John Wilson, in Edinburgh in 1823. All my efforts to date, to find out about his parents and where they came from, have come to nothing.

It's not that easy doing this from the other side of the world, so I was hoping someone might have a couple of tips for a novice family historian which might make my task a little easier.

    Many thanks.

    Hello Peter,
    check out www.familysearch.org
I had a quick look and there are 6 John Wilsons born in Edinburgh area in 1823. If you know the exact birthdate or the exact parish, you can narrow the search. Good luck, its lots of fun when you find another piece of the puzzle. -Helen
