    Default Is this normal?

Hi, we recently had a new fire fitted and a 4" flu liner was used. Since this has been fitted the chimney is incredibly noisy. Is this normal?

Perhaps the wind is vibrating it, our metal gatepost hums tunes as the wind passes across the top, maybe a cowl would help deflect the wind, I have seen chimneys with metal spirals rotating at the top but I'm not sure what they are for.

    Hi Dorrie

We have had a flu liner in place since a back boiler was installed in the 80's (before we bought the house) normally we never hear anything, but in the winter with high winds it can get quite noisy, its like a low tone hum. i have even been known to move out of the lounge because of the noise, but this is rare and only happens if there is a storm and the wind is from a certain direction.
