Not wanting to stir but are you sure your daughter was at work??
ok can someone explain this to me:
after work last night went home (about 5.30) to an empty house (OH was with me and daughter still at work) I dialled 1471 to see if anyon had called and the last call logged was at 4.30 from my own phone number! how can I phone myself? especially since there was no-one home! I also checked 1571 to see if perhaps someone had left a message and for some reason 1471 classed that as a call from myself but no, there were no messages. Any ideas?

Behold the turtle - he only ever gets anywhere by sticking his neck out...
This is usually down to someone sending a text to your phone.
Your phone calls you to provide you with the text details.
Ive had this a few times before on my house phone.
I had a brother-in-law who used to work for BT. He told me that engineers get a quota of free calls and that when they have used these up they 'hook' into someones line and make a call on that. Don't know if the practice still continues.
"Step sideways, pause and study those around you. You will learn a great deal."
I have had the same thing happen to, as moonboots says its due to someone sending a text message to your home phone.
