    Default 70s fancy dress party

Hey everyone, i have a 70s fancy dress party coming up soon, but Im really stuck on what to wear. I have bought a Farrah Fawcet style wig, but Im still not too sure about clothes and make up.

I have done some 'research' and have decided on fake eyelashes and blue eyeshadow. Does that sound right?

Not too sure on the clothes though. I have been told that white knee high boots were popular? Also when i try to look for outfits, I get mixed up between the 60s and the 70s. What things were totally 70s? Every thing i read on one site, is different from the next.

    cheers everyone

Doon Glasgow way it was Levi Sta Press, Arthur Black shirts, Glen check jackets and suits, Crombie coats and Argyle House jumpers, that's where my student grant went anyway :-)

The 70's brought us Abba and all that "Glam rock" style also Bay City Rollers fashion for the younger ones. Midi skirts took over from Minis about '71 and frilly blouses were in. Going out to a "Doo" - a maxi dress was a must and Crimpoline suits for men too!
    Hope you have fun.

I did think about that to begin with, but didnt have a clue what to wear.

Thanks everyone else for replies. I found a multi coloured crochet dress on ebay, would that be 70sish?

Knee high white boots were definitely sixties, although my red ones sort of slid into the 70s. Multi-coloured crochet dress sounds perfect.

I remember a pair of silver shoes with a squarish heel. The hem length was long. Empire waist line was popular. There were some ghastly avocado greens and interesting orange colour schemes.

Now, all of this was in North America.

If you can find the BBC drama "Life on Mars" an episode or two should give you a stack of ideas.

Yip, crochet was definitely in, I even had a pattern for a crochet bikini! Not that I ever dreamed of wearing it! Square toed shoes were that era too. And pull up boots ~ the foot part was like a normal shoe but the legs were like soft PVC socks with elastic tops. Hot Pants and dungarees were also around.

Ah, the 70s! That saw me from my mid teens into my mid twenties. We had some really great fashions back then!

False eyelashes were more a thing of the 60s, really. Blue, green and bluey-green eyeshadows were popular, as well as eyeliner and mascara. Then there was blusher, both matte and frosted. Lipsticks came in various colours, and the chalky pales of the 60s were passé by then.

White knee high boots were popular, especially the leg hugging type. But you'd see them in black and other colours too. Platform shoes and boots were a thing of the 70s, and that was great for short people like myself! Wedge heels were popular, and you could get those with platform soles too. Regular heels were chunky, for the most part.

Jumpers (that's sweaters to our North American friends) - tended to be figure hugging and not very long. Reaching to the waist, or not far beyond. Bell bottom trousers, aka flares, were worn by both males and females. Dresses and blouses often had puffed sleeves. Lapels and collars tended to be on the large, pointed side.
I am living for today, always remembering yesterday, and looking forward to tomorrow!

My student days were the 70s. Platform boots(mine were bright yellow!!) and mini skirts or hotpants. Bell bottom trousers if you wanted to cover up. Midi coats were also 'in', mine was lilac!
    Enjoy your night out...........
