Do you have experience in retail and business development?
We're recruiting for an Enterprise Development Officer for the Socially Growing Greenhouses and Zero Waste Refill Shop.
You'll be employed by Thurso Community Development Trust but working with the Board of the Thurso Community Benefit Society. The role involves the day to day running of Socially Growing as a social enterprise and developing it over the initial first 18 months. The post is funded during this period and is offered on a fixed term of 18 months but there is room to extend dependent on project success.

Socially Growing will see the Thurso Town Greenhouses redeveloped into a thriving growing space and you will be overseeing its commercial development working with the Greenhouse Manager on the refurbishment programme. You will also be setting up, developing and overseeing the commercial development of our Zero Waste Refill Shop.

We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, able to work on their own initiative, believes in the value of social enterprise and community development and has a strong interest in the circular economy, local produce and plastic free (without greenwashing). The main tasks of the position are as follows:

  • Contribute to the achievement of Socially Grown as a social enterprise
  • Day to day management of the Socially Grown Hub and Greenhouses
  • Business development, managing stock, promotions and developing the Socially Growing Hub Zero Waste Retail offering
  • Business development of the Socially Grown Greenhouses including foremost the potential for scale within the facility and diversifying a stable and growing community profits
  • Exploring new lines and business enquiries in relation to Socially Grown including and not limited to opportunities regionally and nationally
  • Working with the Gardener/Trainer to establish accredited training opportunities for young people delivered holistically including employability, life skills and enterprise along with retail and growing skills
  • Managing volunteers and trainees within Socially Grown
  • Developing a range of materials, talks and workshops for the community with climate action and a zero waste ethos
  • Build the capacity and confidence of trainees and volunteers in climate and land based enterprises
  • Engage effectively with partners and other external organisations

FULL TIME - 40 Hours per week
24,000 per annum
