    Default Wales

    Wales
    by Jane Ashford, West Side Primary School, Blaina.

    Wales is a land of daffodils,
    Coal mines, black smoke,
    Vales and hills.
    In this fair land of Wales we see
    Many kinds of scenery.

    The Brecon Beacons are very high,
    They nearly reach up to the sky.
    The river Usk flows very fast,
    By bridges and fields it hurries past.

    In Llangydir on a summer day
    We in the river splash and play,
    And when at last we come back home
    We're glad we have this land to roam.

    Default Daffodils

    Daffodils
    by Dawn Evans, Briery Hill Junior Girls' School.

    Down dales and up hills,
    Rows and rows of daffodils;
    A golden carpet in the sun,
    A gift from God for everyone.

    They cluster down among the trees,
    Dancing merrily in the breeze,
    As they bloom in the Spring,
    New born fragrance with them bring.

    Their colour so bold their trumpets hold
    A wondrous store of glory untold;
    A lovely way for all to say
    " Tomorrow is Saint David's Day."

    What a lovely reminder that March 1st is St David's Day, trinkie!

    I enjoyed those two poems. I think it's great that Welsh children take part in eisteddfodau today. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_David%27s_Day

    I can claim some Welsh ancestry myself, as my maternal grandmother had a Welsh maiden name.

    I'd much rather be wearing a daffodil than a leek on my lapel today, though!
    I am living for today, always remembering yesterday, and looking forward to tomorrow!

    I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud

    By William Wordsworth

    Written in 1804, first published in 1807

    I Wandered lonely as a cloud
    That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
    When all at once I saw a crowd,
    A host, of golden daffodils;
    Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
    Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

    Continuous as the stars that shine
    And twinkle on the milky way,
    They stretched in never-ending line
    Along the margin of a bay:
    Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
    Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

    The waves beside them danced; but they
    Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
    A poet could not but be gay,
    In such a jocund company:
    I gazed--and gazed--but little thought
    What wealth the show to me had brought:

    For oft, when on my couch I lie
    In vacant or in pensive mood,
    They flash upon that inward eye
    Which is the bliss of solitude;
    And then my heart with pleasure fills,
    And dances with the daffodils.
    I am living for today, always remembering yesterday, and looking forward to tomorrow!
