Default Sony Vaio - packed in, only 2 months old.

My neighbours parents got her a Vaio for Christmas. She never defraged 'til the other day. After that, Winows Media Player wouldn't play any of her songs. Now she's having trouble connecting to the internet. And now I think there's a problem with her speakers. Firstly... could it have been the defrag that messed up the player stuff?

Thank goodness I don't have a Vaio (Toshiba forever!! lol)

Super duper techie person here in the village said it'll be the sound card... whatever that means. How the heck do you sort one of those things out?

May have to reinstall the driver which will be on disc(s) that came with it, can they not use system restore to put it back to before the defrag?
