OpenOffice (free alternative to Microsoft Office)
Check out this link to download Open Office:
http://www.openoffice.org/
I've installed this on our home pc's which all had different versions of Microsoft Office. It replaces Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint as well as having a couple of extra programs and is able to open, edit or create files which are fully compatible with MS Office.
It is completely free, although you can can make a donation in much the same way as Mozilla Firefox, so is a good alternative if you don't fancy splashing out a small fortune on the Microsoft version.
