Default help needed for a elecritc bass guitar

    Hi there,
can anyone tell me if my son, who is buying a electric bass guitar, does he also need a amplifier, or can it be played on its own.
    thanks

Your son would need an amplifer if he was on stage but if he was just learning he could just learn without 1.

You could buy him an (affordable) 10 Watt amplifier. The majority of these come complete with a headphones socket, so you wouldn't need to fear of the noise. And encourage him - Caithness needs more musicians.

I totally agree - you can play bass without an amp but you can hardly hear it - the wee practice amps aren't that loud and you can adjust the volume - one of those would be perfect! - don't forget a lead! heh heh
