    hello,
We have just returned from our latest trip to Caithness, spent five nights at the Portland Arms Lybster a great hotel, hope it gets sold off to a private owner following Swallow Hotels problems.
We were really impressed with the pipes and drums in Wick on the 16th Sept and the fish and chips at the picnic tables by the river
We are hoping to come up again in March and were thinking of taking the train journey from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh, have driven part of the route and would appreciate local opinions of scenery etc.

For scenery the train ride is a great way to travel. Not the most time efficient but some opportunities to see some fantastic countryside and wildlife.

The scenery even on the Inverness to Wick line is also fantastic. If it wasn't for the time it takes to travel the distance I would certainly take the train more often. It is lovely to be able to sit back and watch the world (especially up round the West coast ) go by.
Glad 'Munro' enjoyed his trip to Caithness. So nice to get a word of praise after a recent letter in the local paper being so derogatory re Wick.
