Thread: Wick river weir's

    Default Wick river weir's

Led to believe that the main reason for the weir's not being re-instated was that no one was prepared to accept responsibility for flooding to what is now called Haldanes. Maybe I'm wrong but I can't see anyone buying this property and turning it into a viable concern. Should it be demolished and the area developed into possible play area, extension to car park and then have the weir's put back in the river. We could then have boating and other recreational activities back on the river. This might also be a good excuse to use the Wick Academy Development Fund money that has been lying dormant for so many years. (might also be a good way out for the committee).

My memory is that the "Top Sloosh" was removed in the Seventies, as part of a scheme to rid the river of nuisance weed in summer.

I don't know if the wool was pulled over the Council's eyes by the contractor, but it was something of a surprise that the scheme involve getting rid of all the water as well as the weed.
