    Default a bit concerned...

have been reading in the news that in america right now, thousands of birds and fish are dropping dead.. the birds are literately falling dead from the sky by the thousands.. and fish are in the millions washing up dead on the shores..
now this is not in one isolated area.. the fish are from Chesapeake bay and the main bird death was Arkansas and then Louisiana.
    there is a link here..

ive read that this has happened here in Britain as well in the past, but i dont know the details.. and if they ever found a rhyme or reason to it.. but just wondering if it is a sign of something bigger going to happen?

The fish being washed up dead in the UK are most likely to do with the daft EU fishing policy that requires fishing boats to dump a significant part of their catch at sea, even though they are already dead.

Regarding the birds dropping out of the sky - Can you send whatever it is over to Orkney and apply it to geese and starlings please?

These reports sound very reminiscent of 'Flash Forward', the TV programme. Is the US military experimenting?

Brandy, I've been following the reports online from one of the Toronto newspapers. The first batch of bird deaths was thought to have been caused by the New Year's Eve fireworks. But now there are more incidents and I too have been wondering what is going on. Ricco may have a point!

... and sonic weapons can kill all sorts of organisms at quite a range. These were initially developed by the French during (gosh, not sure) was it the Napoleonic wars or later. Of course, outside the range you would hear something. What about a microwave laser? Could it be developed? It would be silent! What about ultra high frequency focussed weapons - wouldn't hear them either.

Now I am not saying these are to blame... but exactly how frequently do you get thousands of birds dropping out of the sky at once??

The bird deaths were caused by fireworks, the birds in question were almost entirely of one species which has poor eyesight and as a result typically roosts at night. They were spooked out of the trees by the fireworks and had to fly low to avoid them, crashing into things.

excepts its not just one species of bird.. not in one place and we are talking thousands of birds.. and i want to say it happened in daylight.. but have to check that.. and there are millions of dead fish as well.

My guess would be weird weather patterns, maybe the birds are hitting turbulance- like running into a brick wall, and same with fish maybe they're running into suddenly colder water, or warmer. I know several years ago during the west nile scare I had some dead birds appear in my pig pasture, was very odd.

Ah so another reason why there's dead birds around!
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/12170571
Birds that were thought to have died from avian flu in Romania instead apparently drank themselves to death.
Residents of Constanta in eastern Romania found dozens of dead starlings on the outskirts of the city on Saturday.
They alerted authorities, fearing the birds had died from avian flu.
But local veterinary officials decided the starlings had died after eating grape 'marc' - the leftovers from the wine-making process.
The head of the local sanitary and veterinary authority, Dvsva, told news agency Agerpres that analysis of the starlings' gizzards showed they had died from alcohol poisoning.
