    does anyone have any idea why there is so many referencesto langley
    theres langley lodge.langley place langley park and s welcomeo on
    wondered was it some form of estate in the distant past???
    thats all in thurso road i should have said any ideas tony

    Hi Toni,
    Langley/Langlea/Langlee/Langly seem to be of 'Old English' origin...of french descent (!) as in Langleigh (I think thats how the french spelt it) it means a long lea, large area, however I can't say how it got here unless it's a local corruption of a once empty possibly green area. The name came to prominense in England round about 1302 when a frenchman did some deed or other, can't remember what!! Hope this is of some help. G.
