Got our son and family coming up - leaving Manchester about 9pm tonight Tuesday - they are driving up overnight, should be here (Strathy) by about 7am Wednesday.. Route: M6. M74. M73. then basically A9 to Helmsdale, before turning off onto A897 to Melvich and then the A836 out west..
I'd like to keep tabs on the road conditions, mostly for the A897 - through Kinbrace & Forsinard.. (don't really want to continue along A9 to Thurso and out - extra 20 miles).. I know the following links are helpful, but anyone any other suggestions? Be much appreciated.. Thanks

Some people are like Slinkies. They're really good for nothing. But they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
Just back from doing Melvich to Helmsdale and road good. Now it has thawed though, there is some flooding in parts, but nothing too bad, that with a little care it should be OK. Lets say also, it is no worse than the A9 Helsmdale to Thurso.
A great many thanks to Changilass and Marwill plus the PM's - much appreciated.. They are leaving Manchester at 11pm tonight - so looks like not too bad a journey up.. Just spent FIVE HOURS putting two wooden bunkbeds together for the kids, must have been 8 million bits..
Thanks again; Org to the rescue!
