As I say well done to you all, I am surprised there is not more response though considering the moaning and campaigning to get faster broadband on this site alone.
Here it seems are people trying and not a word.

It sounds good, I'll remain sceptical until I see how it develops.

This is entirely unrelated but I'd still encourage people to register for BT infinity http://www.racetoinfinity.bt.com/, just as a backup. They need 1000 registrations each (Wick and Thurso) we have about 4500 broadband lines at each exchange so getting a 100 for both shouldn't be a problem if the message gets out. It's for upgrading some towns to FTTC/fibre. Again just as a backup.

As for the Press and Journal stuff, I'm very hopeful especially about the data centre development, provided it isn't staffed by some large outsourcing outfit like CSC or whatever. I'm slightly concerned the money will get wasted on 3G which really isn't that good and isn't going to attract business. Or that BT will just take the money and LLU the exchange; switch us to ADSL2 which again isn't a great outcome and I'd hardly class it as next generation/superfast broadband.

I'd be looking for fibre, either to the cabinet or to the premises.

There's also a slight concern that the funding or a disproportionate amount of it will go to other parts of the highlands and not Caithness.

Correct it is a pilot scheme, but for a UK wide roll out, hence why the whole of H&I is involved. Lessons learnt from this exercise will be used for the UK roll out of superfast broadband to rural areas.
