I have known John for over 30 years and can tell you he would not give a dam ;O) about what people thought about his spelling. I am sure he would have a laugh about it and not come over all offended as others seem determined to do by proxy.
The way you are harping on about this is suggesting that it is a crime to be able to spell words correctly and be able to make yourself clear. People can be born dyslexic or have other learning difficulties, does this account for the entire number of people in the UK that have literacy problems?
As was said, if you are trying your best then no one can fault that. I would put the point, however, that if you have the capability to do better then what is wrong with some self-improvement? Not all UK pupils are failing exams simply because they have not got the capability.
Lighten up a little, the world is depressing enough without getting into a lather about having a smile at a small error. Like Liberace, I am sure John is crying all the way to the bank.
