We have a Turkish Van cat. We got him from the SSPCA at Balmore about 4 and a half years ago.

When we first got him we thought he was just an ordinary cat. When we got a few cat books from the library we saw pictures of cats just like ours. After quite a lot of research and advice from the U.K. Turkish Van cat club we learned he was a Turkish Van.

The markings are as follows. They are mainly white with auburn ears and a white flash in the centre of the head. They have an auburn thumb print about two thirds down the back and an auburn tail.

They are also know as the Swimming cat as they originally come from the Van lake region in Turkey. Hence the name Turkish Van.

When we got him we were told he was taken to Balmore from someone in The Orkney's.
What I would like to know is, if somebody knows of anyone in The orkneys who has this type of cat as they probably do not know how rare these cats are. They are actually pedigrees and can be worth a lot of money.

Unfortunately we can't show our's as a pedigree because he is a rescue cat.
I would be extrememly grateful if somebody can help me out.

Many thanks
