I was surprised to see a solitary Lapwing in our front garden this morning. I did a wee bit of research and according to the RSPB website they are category Red and are a threatened species. There has been a severe decline in their UK breeding population in the last 25 years. My first thought is no wonder does the daft bird not know it’s meant to migrate to south west Ireland and Cornwall in the winter!;)

Here's a good flock of them in amongst the Greylags.

When I used to cycle out to Dounreay to work, I used to love seeing the arrival of the Shockats as the harbingers of spring.
The stunning display flights as they claimed their nesting sites and chatted up the females were just amazing to watch.
Happy memories!:D
And their fearless defence of the same against all comers was just as impressive!
