Dont know if I'm an avid grower, but I grow quite a lot. From tubers and seed.

My favourite of the summer flowers, have only grown a few times, but they are lovely I even had them as cut stems at my wedding.

I think they are quite wonderful flowers, such a variety and thornless!

The only Dahlia i have ever grown was in England and it was called 'The Bishop of Llandaff'. Have to say it was the most amazing plant and flowered profusely without fail.
I keep promising myself that I will have a go up here with them but have never got round to getting any - however this months Gardeners World is offering 3 free Tubers so maybe this will be my chance.
