Has anyone any information on a hospital at Latheron? It is shown on large scale Ordnance Survay maps of around 1870 on the road north of Latheron. It is not the poorhouse which was further north. A hospital called Tarravach Hospital in Latheron is shown on the 1901 census but not after that. On the map it looks like a small rectangular building and in the 1901 census it has 3 patients and 1 female official - presumably a nurse. Therafter there is no mention of it.

It may have been the war memorial building. other than that it may have been the old latheron castle (don't know if it was still intact in the 1870s). I could ask my granny (risking another history lecture) as she lives at Latheron Mains, house built on the grounds of the old castle.
have you tried - http://www.caithness.org/history/latheronhistory/latheron4.htm

I have been informed that it is up the Causeymire about 2 miles from Latheron. There are not many remains left of it, partially as the area is overgrown with heather and the cows have tramped on it. My Granny believes it was just a house owned by a couple and was used to treat victims of flu and virus type diseases.

There are a couple of references on the RCAHMS website for Latheron Hospital. http://canmore.rcahms.gov.uk/en/site/8174/details/latheron+hospital/
