My husband has a William Smith in his tree born 1837 - not sure who he married but he did have a brother Joseph so there may be a connection. The 1866 marriage certificate though would give the names of both sets of parents. So that would give you definite inf.

it seem it was a year earlier and actually in Bower lol. Jun 16 1865 rites of the Free Church witnesses Donald Angus and William Alexander

it has William's parents as David Smith and Annie Bain which I believe is a mistake and it ought to be Isabella Bain
William is a pilot at Crosskirk. This is the one Achastle is referring to.

In 1861 he is still living with his mother Isabella at Crosskirk occupation pilot
In 1871 he is with Elizabeth and the 3 children Cuthill listed occupation fisherman

Elizabeth's parents James Alexander and Mary Angus

was a blacksmith in Brims, Thurso in 1845 and 1847 for sure when son James and daughter Williamina Angus respectively were born.

Elizabeth was born 1843 in Olrig probably Murkle.

James and Mary had 6 children that I can find. James and Mary married Jan 1 1836 in Olrig, James was from Bilbster in Watten at that time.
