View Full Version : legal requirements on the size of blade to be used in a supermarket???
I was just wondering what the legal requirement for the use of a blade in a supermarket for opening boxes plastic ect. as i was told that my blade is illegal but it is only half an inch. dose any one know what the legal requierment is?
Stop being a bufty and tear it open with your hands :D
There is no legal requirement as far as I'm aware.
Supermarkets will usually provide an opening knife with a guarded blade that slips between the folded cardboard. This is then pushed along the length to be cut. Employers are however obliged under 'elf 'n safety' regulations to ensure the safe use of any tools and may prohibit the use of open blade knives should they determine there to be a risk to the user or their colleagues.
If your employer doesn't want you to use an open blade knife then ask them (politely) to provide you with the appropriate tool for the job.
