good shots kara, i read about it on the front page and thought about a drive through for some pics, looks very close to collapse, maybe the normal tidal flow will send it off if they don't get it shored up tonight!
So that's why they shut the road! And there was me grumbling because there was noone working ;)
hi Tugmistress
hope you'r fine :)
they were working a digger in the river maybe going to see if the can support the wall b4 it might collapse,??

will be interesting to see what they've done tomorrow - hopefully it'll be propped up nicely and the tidal movement wont wipe it all out.

Thanks for the update wicker05 :) yes it's a shame it collapsed but looking at how far it had already gone it is no surprise. It'll be an interesting job restoring that one!
Great photos and really interesting to see the foundations of the road after the wall has fallen away.
Be interesting to see how the wall is built up again and how they make it structurally sound joining the existing wall.

according to some records
the old harbour walls were replaced in around 1870, the stone being used to build many houses around the town.

Fine pics tho folks. Ah did notice id wis doon is mornin. Interesting to see if they will re-build e stonework, or just concrete it all back up. Wid be a shame to see more concrete patches in e owld wall.

Yer right Happy Guy!!
I reckon all e locals should tap in e dialect til e forums!
I read the Orkney and Shetland message boards as well, and they are full of local dialect literature. Its great to see how some folk interpret their dialect into writing.
Sorry for the off topic post, please continue.
Im glad that the wall is being done "right" after all. Is it a listed "building" if you can call it that?

It's good to see they have used stone and not just made a concrete wall.
Once the tide has got in and out a few times you will never know that a repair has been made.:Razz
Won't be able to see the join soon! Thanks all for some great pictures.
