mmmmmmm............interesting............
Are they actually going to build it though or are they just doing it to prevent Asda from building? Seems a waste of time putting another Tesco within 20 miles of another large Tesco especially when the Wick Tesco isn't that busy. Yes it will be convenient for people on the Thurso side but won't it just mean there will be very few customers then in both stores as the one in Thurso will take the custom away from Wick. That's just how I see it.

this will have to go to the planning comittee meeting first

This was the planning committee meeting!

Decision The Highland Council Grant Permission
Description of Works Erection of retail store, petrol filling station, new access, car parking, servicing and
associated landscaping and ancillary works
It was all bound to happen sometime. only a matter of time.
I'm curious now as to what they're going to do with the small store in thurso once the bigger one is built. turn it into a small warehouse or sell it on perhaps? :confused
Wasn't there a rumour of a garden centre a while ago?

I hear it's going to be a Matalan. And an Anne Summers. And all the rest of the other things that the old Co-Op building in Francis Street was "DEFINATELY" going to be when it was knocked down......

Before we get all excited about the new store, seems its going to be half the size of the one in wick, grrrrrrr i hope they still left room for the clothes.

oooh and a petrol station...so we can start a new price row lol
Wick Tesco: 77,000 sq ft.
Thurso tesco: 30,000 sq feet (I think no clothes section?)

The Wick store is 50,000 sq ft (http://www.allbusiness.com/retail-trade/food-stores/4274058-1.html) of selling area but 77,000 sq ft total area. I take it that covers non-sales and staff areas, probably the online shopping area, and possibly the cafe and petrol station area, who knows!

So is it definitely going ahead then? I also never saw anything in the papers or even heard anything on the grapevine (you know how the jungle drums beat up here when something happens ) Having lived in glasgow and close to a lot of amenities, Asda were always my shop of choice. I Sincerely hope that Asda get their wish and manage to build something up here. I would prefer to go to them than tesco.
Also has anyone noticed the prices in thurso tesco are more expensive than wick? Scandalous.

They will sell it to Asda, of course.

Does anyone have similar feelings to me why Tesco seem to get permission wherever they want? I know what I believe but could not possibly post it on here.[evil]

It would be my choice as well and many others I suspect, we can live in hope.
AS regards the price difference they will argue different, the wife tried. I once asked in the Wick store why the difference in petrol prices between Inverness and here, the reply was "tesco do not make money off the sale of fuel" and this was off one of the white shirt and tie lot. No national price policy with tesco, ASDA do have a national price policy. :(

I heard that HRC had money invested in tesco whether in shares or what I don't know, but that would be a good reason me thinks.
