For analogue photography rather than digital imaging, have a look here: http://www.apug.org/forums/home.php (http://www.apug.org/forums/home.php)

If you've managed to resist the lure of digital imaging, and still use film of any format (35mm, 120mm or above) then everything and anything you need to know will be found here.:D

For those using film The Massive Development Chart (http://www.digitaltruth.com/devchart.html) comes in quite handy.

There is also the Large Format Forum (http://www.f32.net/) where people using plate cameras etc. congregate.

Try also the Photolinks Directory (http://www.photolinks.com/).

There are also quite a few very good online photographic materials suppliers, but I'm not sure if posting links to them would be considered spamming.

If you have a large number of digital images to catalogue / keep in order, then ThumbsPlus (http://www.cerious.com/thumbnails.shtml) is brilliant. It creates a database of thumbnails so you don't have to wait for the thumbnails to be generated each time. It has manipulation facilities like Irfanview, will run batch jobs, and has built-in Windows Explorer functionality for moving / copying files, folders and so on. Yep, it's not free, but it is superb. There's an evaluation version >>>here<<< (ftp://ftp.cerious.com/pub/cerious/thmpls.exe)

I downloaded Picasa2 (free, from Google) to see what it would do, and the answer is quite a lot.

It scans your pc for images and catalogues them, sorting by folder and date. Sensibly it ignores images held in the browser cache (IE and Firefox), but catches images attached to emails (though truthfully I can't speak for Outlook or O. Express; I use a much more secure client called Pocomail). It presents images to you as thumbnails.

It allows you do undertake basic editing of images - various filters, colour "correction" and so on, and has a timeline view which is superb, presenting all your images in order of date. You can straighten images, too, if the camera was held at an angle.... and we've all done that, I suspect.

The other good thing is it finds all the pictures you put in a folder that was obvious at the time, but that then you forgot about, so you can spend hours ooh-ing and aahh-ing over images you'd forgotten you have.

It's free, and can be downloaded >>>here<<< (http://google.picasa.com/) . I know one or two sources have muttered in the past about what gets sent to Google so if you're concerned you might want to read the EULA or Privacy Policy (http://www.google.com/privacypolicy.html) . I can't see any particular problem that would worry me, but IANAL

Looks like this website has been hacked by the "D2 Team".
Don't think there's any malicious content, but I'd avoid just in case.

The best hosting site I have found is http://wordpress.com/...

Just create yourself a free account & you get 3GB of storage, all photos can be hotlinked, no pop-ups, no ads, no limitations on resolution, the only limitation is a 1GB filesize limit. You don't even have to do anything with the blog side of it, just use it as a host...
