Edinburgh's Platform label, alongside sister imprint Whimsical Records, have a publishing arm too, the busy people. Platform Songs has started a royalty collection service for unpublished artists and unsigned bands, to help them receive PRS and MCPS royalties generated from live gigs, tv/radio airplay and record sales and say they have already collected a four-figure sum for one client during the trial period. There's no upfront fee, no long-term contract, writers keep the copyright in their works and Platform will manage backdated claims - at least 4 years in arrears in some cases, which would not be possible as a new member joining MCPS/PRS. They can also submit back claims for radio plays and mechanical royalties generated from writers' songs being commercially released on physical formats. Before this gets to sound too much like an advert for them, visit www.yourroyalties.co.uk
