View Full Version : cow tipping is an urban myth

A cow of 1.45 metres in height pushed at an angle of 23.4 degrees relative to the ground would require 2,910 Newtons of force, equivalent to 4.43 people, she wrote.

Dr Lillie, Ms Boechler’s supervisor, revised the calculations so that two people could exert the required amount of force to tip a static cow, but only if it did not react.

“The static physics of the issue say . . . two people might be able to tip a cow,” she said. “But the cow would have to be tipped quickly — the cow’s centre of mass would have to be pushed over its hoof before the cow could react.”

there is certain way to tip a cow and u dont push her over it's to do with her balance.

dont know if i should be saying this *laughs* but to tip a cow you have to make sure they are asleep.. so as to be caught off guard and off balance.. at least 2-3 people have to take a running go and push together.. and if you run into a sleeping cow that isnt sleeping then the ones to go flying is the would be tippers..

nope never.. was never brave enough to try it.. cows are much much bigger than me! but i am a country girl *laughs* so the boys had to have something to do on a sat night! *laughs* how true their stories are ...well i dont know.. but i went with them on a few adventures! and scary!!!! country boys big trucks.. and hot summer nights!
oh by the way as that sounds bad! ive 5 brothers and 6 God Brothers! *laughs* so sister was WELL chaperoned.. i was soooo safe from the other boys.. unfortunatly they felt that as long as my virtue was safe the rest of me didnt matter!! *laughs* lucky to be alive!

How can a sleeping cow not be sleeping?

brandy
17-Mar-06, 23:28
*laughs* from what i understand they can look to be sleeping but just be dozing or still very alert.. the herd takes turns with guard duty.. so if they are standing up you cant really allways be sure they are asleep..

Now sit doon ma fellow orgers cos I have a story to tell.Used to attend a college in 1991 at a college in the suburbs of Edinburgh. The college was between the outskirts of the city and a small outskirt called Cramond. In this wee 'between' lay a field full of cows. Now as I was in my younger days,a nightclub fanatic full of BOOZE passed by this in between.

A cow occassionally sleeps standing up.......in my PERSONAL experience of life it only takes 2 drunken fools to push over a sleeping cow!!!!

Before ye judge me my fellow orgers,This was the first and last time I ever done this!!!!!!

For those orgers who are interested in what a cow looks like when it has been woken up while standing up.....It looks at you as if tae say ,"dae that again big man and I'll brain ye!!!!!!"

some tips to consider before cow tipping.....

Do not wear red. Bulls are in the area.
Do not tug on the tail to check on sleeping status.
Do not make "moo" sounds. This only aggravates them.
Do not try to ride the cow like a horse.
Do not try to milk the cow.
Do not make friends with the cow. Remember, you are there to TIP the cow, not buy it a drink.
Do not dress cow up in a pink tutu. They like purple.
Do not eat a burger in front of the cow. They have feelings too!

just a few other suggestions....

If the fence is making a buzzing sound, do not attempt to cut. If you do, you will have frizzy hair for the next few days.
If the fence is making a buzzing sound and may be electrified, do NOT attempt to relieve yourself on it. I have seen this happen. It's NOT pretty.
Make sure you bring the good truck. This is supposed to be done quietly. Do not have a truck that backfires like a rifle. Cows will awaken.
Make sure it IS a cow. If it has horns, and no udders, Back off with caution.
Remember poor Tipper. Beware of cow pies.
