Shallotts and onions question

Being fairly new (this is our second year) to growing our own veg this is our first attempt at shallots and onions. The very end tips of them have gone brown, does that mean that they are just burnt with the wind or is it something else? Apart from that they look really healthy and strong.

I thought this was an indication that your onions are nearly ready for harvest. I have been led to believe that within a 1-2weeks of the foliage starting to turn brown and shrivel up, it is time to harvest, and this should be done on a sunny day when the onions can be left out to dry.

But check it out first, I'm not an expert.
