We have massive bushes of flowering currant in our back garden which "eat" in on our flowers and herbs.

I, THINK it's ok to use a hedge trimmer on them to cut them back to a decent shape, but OH says each stem SHOULD be pruned individually !

Thats a heck of lot of work !!!!!

Anyone got some advice on the best way to keep them in shape ??

You should be ok with a hedge trimmer as long as you're not too drastic. Best time is when they have finished flowering.

Why not try a bit of both, and see how it works. Hedge trimmers can leave ragged cuts on the branches.

Thanks Scunner, think I'll mainly use the hedge trimmer, then tidy up any obvious bits with the clippers, just GLAD to know that I don't have to go around pruning each individual branch !!

It'd be like painting the Forth Road Bridge ha, ha, ha
