Sorry I don't have a piccie to show you but I'm staking the bird table out (disguised as a plant no less) so I'm hoping to get something on camera soon.
It was about the size of a Robin (tad bigger maybe). It looked like a common birdy until I noticed that each wing had a black & white stripe to it (going down the edge of the wing), it also appeared to have some kind of tufted head (least I don't think it was the wind ruffling it).
Colour wise it was browny with a beige underbody.
Any ideas? I've searched and cannot find any likeness anywhere.

sorry, can't do links or pics....maybe a wheatear?...they are beige underneath.....and on top really!...quite a few around my house just now......

Yep, certainly looks like a Female Chaffinch. Guess it was the wind causing the head tuft. lol.

Lovely pics nirofo, and glad you have been able to identify porshiepoos mystery bird. Aaldtimer, it was me who suggested it could be a wheatear, not nirofo.......and i was only going by 'the beigy bits'
