Wick win it late on to maintain their pace http://www.ngrfoundation.co.uk/joomla/images/M_images/printButton.png (http://www.ngrfoundation.co.uk/joomla/index2.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19977&pop=1&page=0&Itemid=38) Wick Academy closed the gap on the teams above then with a last minute winner seeing of Brora Rangers, denying the Cattachs the opportunity to climb the table and keeping the Scorries within touching distance of the top six. With five wins from their first six games Wick were keen to make up for their late loss to Inverurie Locos by picking up three points when Highland rivals Brora Rangers travelled North.
The Scorries were first to threaten, seven minutes in, when Richard Macadie played the ball into the path of Craig Shearer and it took Matt Curtis two attempts to safely gather the midfielder's 20 yard effort.
At the other end Arron Christie worked his way in behind right back Stevie Cunningham and whipped a ball into the near post area where it was met by Iain Innes, however his header flew over the bar.
The woodwork came to the rescue of the Cattachs in the 20th minute when Gary Weir took a long diagonal ball from Stevie Cunningham on his chest before turning his marker and firing towards the bottom corner, by Curtis did magnificently to turn the ball onto the post and away for a corner.
Brora continued to show good fight and they appeared to have taken the lead when John Cameron split the Wick defence with a forward pass to James Murray, who ran on to slot home. However the assistant's flag ruled out his effort.
Wick Academy took the lead in the 36th minute when Gary Manson played the ball in behind the Brora defence for Bryan McKiddie and he collected, turned and cut it back for Craig Shearer who lashed it into the roof of the net on the half volley.
The visitors were level in the 72nd minute when sub Jamie McKay raced onto a ball down the inside right channel, skipped past James More and then slotted the ball into the empty net from a tight angle.
However right at the death Wick snatched all three points thanks to sub David Allan (probably). A corner was cleared to the edge of the box but Stevie Cunningham shoed great technique to strike it into the ground with force and back towards the goal. On it's way through a ruck of bodies it appeared as though David Allan was able to flick it past Matt Curtis for a crucial three points in the mid table battle.
