Didna want to post on Julia's thread. (love her tattoo) but this is my biggest tattoo, designed by my partner. This photo was taken about 2 hours after it was done.

This was the tattoo i designed (on a post-it at work)

http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/4238/tattooc.jpg

And this is the tattoo my partner done, his first tattoo on another person. My son's name <Athrun>

http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/5584/1936379582a9532465435l.jpg

I cant get a photo of my 4th one because its in an awkward place. So will get one later.

So let's see everyone else's.

He is a good artist! I keep trying to encourage him to sell some of his drawings because they are imaculate. But he thinks they wont sell. I do. My drawings are just sketches compared to his.

The top tattoo has 4 different types of celtic in the body parts, let me tell ya the tattooist had a very hard time recreating it all because he could not trace them on, it was free-hand and had to copy from the drawing. 2 1/2 hours later......my bum was numb from sitting

I don't have a camera or I would show you my feet. That's the only places I have them. mostly lotus flowers. I'm a big fan of Fearne Cotton's tatooed feet so got some inspiration from her. Looking to add some trailing stars to link them up a bit. It's a work in progress. Have to say I got some tiny shaded bits added in the place beside the bus station in Inverness and it was the sorest of all, it was like he was scraping the skin rather than going into it with the needle.
I enquired about getting one on the side of my hand when I was in Glasgow but they wouldn't do it because they said it would fade all the time and I'd have to get it touched up a lot. Really peed me off!

If the good Lord wanted us to have tatoos we would have been born with spots, stripes etc like the rest provided to nature. But each to their own! ;) Commendable artistry though some may be. Same with piercing - we'd have been born with holes in various places - some more extreme now adays than before! What an old fart eh?

I had my first tattoo when I was fifteen years old and it annoyed my dad so much I went and had a load more done.

At the time it seemed like the right thing to do and all my mates were doing the same so it must be a good thing.

I had no particular thought pattern to what and why I wanted tattoos and consequently I just ended up with a random mixture of nothing in particular and by the time I was seventeen I had them on my arms legs chest and back.

People have said to me over the years “do you wish you never had them done” and the answer is yes.:confused

If I could start again I may consider having one for a reason and in an inconspicuous place, and I am just glad I never had any on my hands or face where they could not been covered up.

If I can dig up a couple of photos, I will post them so that anyone who is considering having one done they will give it a bit more thought than I did.

I've got 1 up my foot and it wouldnt say that it was that sore. Only took about 20 minutes in total. I also have 1 going up the outside of my hand. Got it done by Carl in Dingwall but it has faded due to the fact I was at work the day after I got it done. I want to get it recoloured but was sore and swollen after!

Hi Weeboyagee,

I totally agree with you - if the Good Lord meant us to have them then we would have been born with them !!
If tatoos are meant to be works of art then lets put them into the local art gallery ?
People who have "tats" where "no one can see them" then what is the point of degrading your body ???

Can you really justify certain "tats" - do you REALLY want to go through the pain (and money ?) to change them at a later date ????

SOME cultures see it as a passage from childhood to adulthood..
enduring the pain is seen as a transition from child to man

WHY do WE see it as such is THIS day and age ??

My first one was a butterfly design with initials around it, then last year I had my second one done its a purple lilly

My Hubbys third tat

http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll274/ecm_015/SS100342.jpg

I think tattoos are fine as long as you in yourself are happy with them and where they are. I got my first one at the bottom of my back and then the 2nd one at the top of my back.

I know they are there and the mean alot to me, but they are for me, and its my body so why should it bother any one else?

But isnt it the point that it is YOUR body and no-one elses. Some people put Drugs,Alcohol,Junk food in theirs but that is their choice.
If someone has one in a place where "no-one can see them" maybe that is because it is special for them and someone else but not for PUBLIC consumption.
Most people dont get them done for show, its an expression of ones self that is a PERSONAL statement.
If someone doesnt like them you dont have to look at them.
And for the "if the good lord intended" bit, did he intend us to Fly,Drive cars, kill each other etc?

what a thread, could maKE ONE SPEW, if they think the tatoos are bonnie I just dont know what to think. Are the local Caithnessians gone mad or what???? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but..............there is beauty and beauty but this lot takes some beating.......... Do they have to wear thick black tights to cover up their legs and feet or do they have long boots or what????? I am no narrow minded old cowdger but there is a limit..........What happens when they get old and wrinklie and go to Pulteney House or Bayview House or wherever?. I suppose they will be past the stage of embarrassment by that time. Well one thing is for sure one gets educated as to the Arts on Caithness.Org:lol::lol:Just imagine your bairns seeing all this funny stuff on their mammies and daddies and wondering why they are different?????????

If you don't like tattoos then why are you even looking at this thread???[disgust]
Anyone who gets a tattoo gets it because they want it and like the design. Therefore there would be no need for them to worry about covering it up with thick tights and boots just because someone else doesn't like it.
I agree with Shelley. When you get a tattoo you don't care about what it will look like when you're old and wringly. And as for bairns seeing it on their parents. They grow up seeing it on them so properly don't care anyway. ;)
If you don't like this thread and it makes you feel nauseous don't look at it and don't post on it Catran. Simple.

You ladies with children might take a moment to think of the possible consequences!
I keep posting this as just a reminder of what you may be leaving yourselves open to.
An opinion from a well respected scientist, working in the USA, but of Scots origin:-

"I'm not too concerned with the aesthetics of tattoos, it's the health risks which worry me...a tattoo is little more than a sterile needle injecting an unsterile metal oxide pigment under the skin...and, in my view, a nasty trick to play on an immune system. Putting a non-native substance into the body triggers an immune response...in rare cases it can trigger an _auto_immune response and then look out...autoimmune responses can't be turned off and they don't go away.

Moreover, most people don't know what questions to ask, such as "What carrier solution do you use for the ink?" Some of the "artists" use ethylene glycol or aldehydes instead of glycerin because the former spreads the ink better. The problem is that those substances...which are toxic/hazardous enough in and of themselves... when combined with the topical alcohol used to sterilise the skin, become synergistic biochemical promoters which can cause cellular mutation in tissues _other_ than the tattoo site.

Additionally, while the needles can be heat sterilised, the pigments themselves _can't_ be owing to their composition...Cadmium, Chromium, Cobalt, Lead, and Mercury are still used in some places and they can be seriously nasty customers...you don't need to be a chemist to know injecting any of them into the body (even subcutaneously) is probably not the most health conscious thing one can do.

People seem to think hepatitis or HIV are the primary risks in tattooing...they're not by a long chalk, they're merely the ones people understand easily...the _real_ danger lies in the less well-known biochemical, physiological risks. Every successful tattoo is a biochemical bullet dodged and every unsuccessful one is life forever changed. In my eyes, it's just not worth it."

Aaldtimer, i really do understand what you are saying, but are there not risks with nearly everything we do. Like, im going to see my dad today. So is there a risk on crossing a main road?

But i do get what you are saying! ;)

I have had bad experiences with needles when i got my piercings, but still never put me off. Maybe there is alot more behind it for some people.

tatts on a woman are lovely but thats just my own blinkered opinion!
Its their body so if they want to get a tatt why not?
There is risks in everything that we all do, getting a bonny and sharp needle dug into your skin is just one more risk!
Would be interested to find out what percentage of people have had an infection from a tattoo, bet its still less than the amount of people infected by MRSA in our hospitals? Now thats food for thought.

I'd like to get a small tattoo of Katie Melua on my upper arm and maybe a dolphin or penguin on my forearm.

tatts on a woman are lovely but thats just my own blinkered opinion!

I've had nine sessions and luckily only one skin infection, which was last year. I certainly won't visit that particular tattooist again. [evil]

The place where I go now is spotless, the standard of hygiene is as high as possible and the needles etc.. are unwrapped in front of you, I know what to look for and I'm very happy with the service. Picking and scratching are ultimate no no's.

Aftercare plays a large part of it too, it's not all down to the tattooist, a new tattoo must be kept clean and dry, washing it a couple of times a day with a mild soap, drying thoroughly and then by applying an antiseptic cream regularly.

I washed mine every day and then put some E45 on it daily to act as a barrier, didnt really scab all that much,I was scared in case a bit of my dog fell off!![lol]

someone reccomended terrys tattoos in glasgow on here but i cannot get an appointment there, can anyone else reccomend any others in glasgow
thanks

I assume that is because they don't do appointments (they didn't when I was there last year) but if you go a few minutes before they open you will not have to wait for long.

There's a tattooist's called Archangel in Glasgow, if you wanted to go as far as Edinburgh I'd recommend a place called Bizarre Ink.

Bizarre Ink are excellent.

Bizarre Ink are excellent.

If your going to go to edinburgh then you can't go past tribal. They are appointment only but if you phone them or e-mail them to tell them you're travelling down they will fit you in.

My best pal and I had matching tattoos done last Friday, to celebrate our milestone birthdays and our 27 year long friendship.
