I keep getting 'Internet Explorer Script Error' messages and have read that this can be due to a damaged registry.If this is the case can anyone recommend the best registry cleaner?Thanks!This will probably appear without any spaces due to this problem. Sorry!

If you are getting errors that is the result of a corrupt registry then a registry cleaner is unlikely to help. A dorrupt or damaged registry is just missing keys or data that can be restored. Your best course of action is to fix the problem in the registry by reinstalling IE for example.

If I had a pound for everytime somebody made their computer unusable after using a Registry Cleaner I would be a rich man. Unless you know exactly what you are doing I would stay away from them.

However if you do use one, ALWAYS take a backup of the registry before you make any changes. I have used CC Cleaner in the past with mixed results.

I will reinstall IE and stay away from registry cleaners! As a matter of interest what do you think Perfect Optimizer? In the bumph it said it is very easy to use?

I had a Google for it as I had never come across it before and noticed that you had to pay for it. No idea how easy it is to use but cleaning the registry isn't a decision that can be taken wholly by tools such as it. I also noticed that you had to pay for it so I'd just avoid it. CC Cleaner is the only one I've used. It's good but as I said, with all of these things you need to know what you're doing as telling it to remove something when you shouldn't could have serious consequences for your operating system.

i like Ccleaner
i also like glary Utils

that gets a much better review on major geeks.

it also has the uncanny knack of being able to uninstall quite a few things that other uninstallers cannot, inc many in-bedded MS applications/utils.

I use norton 360 it has a registery cleaner ans a spyware remover on it as well.
I clean the register usaully about every second day and its a amazing how many files need repairing every couple of days its hard to believe sometimes

urm..
i avoid norton anything now a day.
very much bloatware
old days used to be good
now most punters i find with it on there pc's
go very much faster and smoother once removed
though that can be a right pain!

till i found glary utils that is..

I find it strange that anybody other than somebody who is constantly installing, uninstalling and 'footering' with their computers will need ANY of these utilities on a regular basis. I was one of these 'footerers' but I gave that up as I was constantly having PC problems and couldn't get any work done! I now have a stable machine that nothing get's installed or uninstalled from.

These Registry Cleaning and Maintenance utilities are, in general, a con in my opinion. You don't need to be running them daily or weekly to keep your PC 'in good health' unless you are constantly playing around with things. If you have your PC with IE / Firefox / AN Browser, Outlook / Outlook Express, Flash, Adobe, Silverlight, Office / Works, iTunes, antivirus / antispyware / firewall, a printer and a scanner than your PC will generally keep going without problems. When there are no problems, these utilities simply do a little tidying up that you generally wouldn't even notice or care about.

I wouldn't recommend any of these utilities for somebody not versed in how they work. There are too many things that they can do to destroy Windows and they need to be monitored and supervised to make sure that what they are doing is safe. People who suggest running these utilities as an off-cuff remark, particularly to somebody who is not knowledgeable on how they work is only going to cause that person problems. You can only really get to understand what these things should do and what they shouldn't with experience.

Don't muck around with Windows and it will generally keep going for you. If you do then be prepared for problems. It's the same as if you were playing with your car engine!

if it ain't broke then don't fix it!

i must admit to finding them more of a benefit, than a problem , esp if the 'punter' is remote or a continual 'pest' to the repair business.

ok, it doesn't result in any money to recommend using these utils, as it might well fix the punter problem, but i find it better to advise using them, then if the issues concerned remain, bring it into the shop for a look see.
