I am new to any form of forums, so claim ignorance of protocol beyond belief!
My father-in-law claimed that he was born in Banff, and his death certificate says that he was aged "about 72" when he died in 1967 (ie we think he was born in Banff 15 Sept 1895).
I can find nothing about him prior to his marrage in Cheltenham in July 1944; but have a list of stories which he told to his new family which is too long to include here but include the idea that his father died at around the time of the infant's birth
Bearing in mind that I live in southern England, and am therefore not of the "correct" nationality, can anyone advise me on how or where I can find records of his birth, schooling, etc and what happened to any family prior to 1944 - I have tried ScotlandsPeople, but to no avail
