Good news indeed, when do they normally arrive back from where ever they pass the winter?
My guess is they head for the warmer Mediterranean.
Watching gannets fishing is really entertaining, have passed many an hour that way and when they are being harassed by the skuas it developes into quite a drama.

They've never been away, you can see them most days fishing just out from the Thurso River estuary, out beyond the surfers.

Here's a couple of photographs of Gannets at their nesting colony on Bass Rock.

What stunning pictures nirofo especially the second one.
Must say I did n't see a single one during our last stay despite visiting several places where I would normally expect to.

I spent ages a couple of weeks ago watching a young gannet fishing at Castlehill Harbour. it was most entertaining as Lizz says.
