brandy,

Cameras given by cemmts are good starting points, as is the camera buying guide. Nikon D40X might be getting more difficult to get, look at D60.

Canon and Nikon are the two big players in the field, you will find lots of good info on Nikons on Thom Hogan's site, http://www.bythom.com/

New prices in the Uk, look at this site, http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/

If you have not used a dslr before, go to a good camera shop and try the cameras out, the real differences in image quality between the major manufacturers is relatively small, what is important is that you "get on" with the camera.

S/w, try this thread http://forum.caithness.org/showthread.php?t=61246.

Hope this helps.

I got myself the D60 as I`m pretty new to DSLR photography and I would say it`s a cracking camera for starting out.

I`m still getting used to it but the more I pick up/learn the better it gets.

Just thought I`d say...
