Can someone help please?

I have tried to access chat on 2 different reputable sites.
A popup appears asking me to ok active x controls.
I click ok and let the active x access to my computer ( Vista )
I than get a message that my computer has blocked the web page and no matter what i do i cannot get on these chat forums.
I have looked in add ons to see if they are there to enable help

i need to find what port the website is using and if its tcp or udp
I have no idea what a tcp or udp are and i dont know how to find out what port or anything else

I need to know this so i can create a port to allow the active x through the firewall,as at the moment there isn't a port to do this .

Which site is it you are trying to access the chat through?

ActiveX controls can pretty much do anything when installed on your PC, however they would generally communicate through port 80 which is used by the browser anyway.

Why do you think / what makes you think you need to open a port on your firewall for the chat? If you're not sure what you're doing then I wouldn't start opening ports in the firewall. The more ports you open, the weaker the firewall and your security is.

1 of the chat rooms is a forum for cancer issues ( cancer backup )the other is another trusted community forum.earch and help I have looked on the tools for add ons and they are not there. I have looked on search and help and this is 1 of the solutions the others i have tried to no avail. Any suggestions please

You said you checked Addons and it's not there? Do you mean Tools->Manage Addons and then selecting Downloaded ActiveX Controls from the dropdown?

What are your Security settings for the Internet Zone (under Tools->Internet Options->Security->Internet)?

You said you get a message saying it has blocked access to the webpage - where does the message come from (ie. is it an Internet Explorer message or a message from your antivirus / antispyware / firewall / pop-up blocking software)?

What antivirus, antispyware, firewall and pop-up blocking software do you have installed?

My internet security is set medium to high.
Its a message from windows saying it has blocked the download.
I have norton security.
windows defender.
windows firewall
pop up blocker is set to medium

Can you either send over in this post or by PM, the name of the sites you are trying to get to and how to get to the chat. Your IE settings are as they should be.

One thing I noticed however is that you have Windows Firewall turned on and Norton Internet Security (I assume it's the whole Internet Security rather than just Norton Antivirus). This isn't a good idea. One firewall is enough and given the choice, however much I hate Norton, it's a better firewall than the Windows one.
