Does anyone know of any freeware (or paid for software) that can be used to download (and save) YouTube clips?

Firefox has a number of addons that will save YouTube clips - they are all free. I would tell you what they are, however there are quite a few of them and they are easiy found so I'll let you make your own mind up (and also the one that i had I uninstalled a while ago and have fogotten what it was called :-))

There are probably similar addons for IE7 too.

I use Real Player which is free. As soon as the video start to play a small box appears at top right of video asking if you want to downlaod it, which usually takes just a few seconds.

I have also used realplayer to download clips.

I also use other software which is free and has load of different converters, quite good, I have used it to download a music video from youtube then extract the audio to mp3 format.

Thanks for your replies. If anyone else is interested in this kind of thing, then the following links (supplied to me in pms) might be of interest to them:

Or for converting .flv files (the format used by YouTube) to .mpg or .avi files (playable on most pcs without adding extra software):

I got a good program, it searches YouTube for you and you can watch the videos before downloading them as well, it's on http://www.koyotesoft.com/indexEn.html then click on Free FLV Converter at the side.
