Could someone confirm what this bird is for me please? I've put loads of garden feeders out and I'm a complete novice at bird ID. I thought maybe a Greenfinch?

This one is a real quandry for me. I thought maybe a Willow Warbler or a Chiff Chaff??? Whatever it is it's quite aggressive to the other birds and is obviously trying to protect something.

Haven't a clue what this next one is. Some kind of Finch maybe?

Hi Porshie

I would agree with your first two as being greenfinch and chiffchaff and think the last one is a juvenile goldfinch or a female chaffinch

this is a great site for helping identify birds RSPB bird identfier (http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdidentifier/form.asp)

Hi Porshiepoo

Nice pictures.

1. Greenfinch. 2. Willow Warbler (leg colour and primary projection wrong for Chiffchaff) 3. Chaffinch

If you need a book to help identification then I suggest that you buy the Collins Bird Guide - well worth the investment - you never know what might turn up on your feeders, especially over the next three months of migration.

Thanks for that guys! Good to know that I am actually learning something. lol.
At the moment I'm having to find out what I can from 'The Birds of Britain & Europe' but it's an old book and I really don't like that the illustrations are not photos.

So, what sort of bird can I expect to see here over this migration period? We live very very close to the sea and we seem to be having some lovely looking birds around.

Is there some species that would nest in the reeds of our mini lake? I'm sure I've seen a bird going in but never see it come out again!
