Theres a plant I love used as a hedge round a house on the way to Wick, do any of you guys know what it is?
The house is on the left (from Lybster to Wick) just past the old quarry. The hedge surrounds the house and has lovely red flowers on it.
I thought maybe an Escallonia? But not sure.

Pretty sure it will be Escallonia as it withstands the wind and salt air and very cold temperatures extremely well - it is one of the few bushes/trees that is evergreen too and with the bright red to pink flowers always looks good - it withstands all it gets blasted with in my garden next to the sea in windy Western Isles.

It could also be fushia - they grow wild and will be in full flower at the moment - but they do lose leaves in winter

Both will grow very well in Caithness - despite the wind, rain and salt.

I had a very nice Escallonia in my garden in Shropshire ,and if my memory serves me right it used to flower twice a year.:)
