One of my goals has been to trace the lineage of my ancestors who did not leave Caithness for Glasgow and then on to Canada and America. The person I am trying to research is a Mr. Alexander Henderson of Dunbeath, who was born around 1854, and lived in the area of Balnabruick.

The historical records are a bit sketchy I think in part due to the transition from parish records to government records in 1855, but his wife seems to have been named Catherine born about 1865 or so. They had several children: John (born 1889), Alexander (born 1891), James (born 1893), Annie (born 1895), Henrietta (born 1897), Catherine (born 1899), and William (born 1900).

If anyone can provide any information on these people or their descendants, I would be eternally grateful!

Thanks for any and all tips.

Alexander Henderson was my first cousin 3 times removed. He married Catherine Sinclair on 23 December 1887 in Dunbeath. His address on the marriage certificate was Roadside, Ramscraigs, Dunbeath. Her address was Portormin, Dunbeath. He died on 21 May 1919, age 65, in Balcladich, Dunbeath of Pernicious Anaemia.

I haven’t started looking into his children yet, but there was another son, Hugh Henderson, who was the death informant.

Catherine Sinclair was described as an Agricultural Labourer on the marriage certificate. She was born on 29 June 1864 in Dunbeath to parents John Sinclair, a Salmon Fisher, and Ann Sutherland.
