Rescuers say there's little chance of finding a Caithness fisherman alive as the search for him is called off.
Coastguard and mountain rescue teams have just been stood down and it's not though they'll resume their search in the morning.
The small creel boat belonging to the forty six year old fisherman was found washed ashore near the Castle of Mey last night just an hour after he was reported overdue.
A full scale search was immediately launched involving three coastguard teams, two lifeboats and an RAF helicopter. However no trace of the man was found and the search was called off at midnight.
At first light this morning the search was resumed both at sea and on land.
The circumstances surrounding the fisherman's disappearance are almost identical to that of sixty year old Robert Begg whose boat was found washed up on the same stretch of shore two years ago. The local community is once again in shock.
Even this afternoon, searchers were losing hope.
But that search has now been called off and only coastguard members on foot are expected to continue the search tomorrow along with volunteers from the community.
