i just thought i would put a post on about all the books i have read and see if anyone could give me ideas for books like the ones i read as i am rubbish at finding new books only through people who have given me them and through my recomendations on amazon have i found new ones that i have throughly enjoyed any recomendations would be very helpful thanx

1.anne rice - the whole set of vampire chronicals
2.j.k rowling - all 7 harry potter books ( several times)
3.maryjanice davidson - the undead series (still more of them to come)
4.michelle paver - the chronicals of ancient darkness (still more to come)
5.kim harrison - the rachael morgan series (still more to come)
6.phillip pullman - the lyra series
7.a book called daughter of the storms not sure of author as read it in highschool long time ago
8. lots of dick king smith (not sure which ones)
9. roald dahl (again not sure which ones)
10. katie macalister - the aisling grey series
11. meg cabot - the princess diaries
am sure there is loads more but cannot think of anymore at the time

Try the Anne Macaffrey series, "The Crystal Singer," etc.
As you seem to be into folk lore, myth and legend you might enjoy "£arthsea" by Ursula le Guin also "The Silver bough" by Neil Gunn.

haha i know what you mean i need an eternity just to read all the ones i want i run out of books too quick i finish them normally in the same day i got them just bought 3 more from the aisling grey series had the first got the second today which wont last long got another 2 in the post lol
yes my mum is reading the witching hour at the moment am going read it after her and then lasher will have a look and look up these books thanx for the help any other suggestions are welcome lol

Padfoot, i know what you mean. Finding a good book is sometimes difficult but brilliant when you find one.
These aren't really the type of books you've mentioned but i picked up 'To Kill a Mockingbird' in the library a few weeks ago and thought it was fantastic. I also picked up 'Sunset Song' which i found very difficult to read but the story was excellent. Hubby hated it as it was thrust on his 3rd year English O Grade so i was determined to see what it was like. Oh and i've taken a wee James Bond gee, the books are darker than the films but pretty easy to read.
These were all picked up from the paperback section on a whim.
Go with a whim, you may like what you find.

thanx i will bear them in mind i am always open to new types of books although i prefer fantasy i like all books (except war ones and stuff like that) think i have read a james bond book once or some of it think they would probably be quite good as have liked the new films

Two authors ye have mentioned J.K Rowling and Roald Dahl.Try a wee book when ye have a moment 'Elidor' by Alan Garner,I really enjoyed this.It wisnae a friend who introduced me to 'The Lord of the Rings',it was this man with his book.

Robert Holdstock - Mythago Wood!!!

Clive Barker - Weaveworld...among other brilliant books

John Connolly - Every Dead Thing, and all the rest in the series

Brian Lumley - The Necroscope series...(vampires)

Garth Nix - Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen...

Jeffery Deaver - All the Lincon Rhymes Series...

Kenneth C? Flint - The Irish mythology series...brilliant

Bernard Cornwell - Historical Heroic Fiction...King Arthur, Sharpe, and others

Kim Newman - Anno Dracula...interesting twist on the old tale

Terry Pratchett - Any of his really...

Stephen Donaldson - The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant - Loads in the series Adult content fantasy of the highest order....

This is just a quick list off the top of my head, but I will jot down more if you wish....

Oh! One more great author I almost forgot - ME!! LOL

James, I love Terry Pratchett. He looks at the universe in a totally different perspective to the rest of us!
Who's your favourite Terry Pratchett character? I think mine is the Librarian but Granny Ogg, Samuel Vines and Magret are closely behind, oh and the luggage is fantastic, how i long for a case like that.

I think my fave Pratchett was 'Guards Guards' the bit that sticks in my mind from all those years back was his description of the Dwarf Bread...you have to place it carefully upon a strong table, taking care not to trap your fingers ...LOL
