Hi all those green fingered/market garden types.
We grow early Sharpes and Duke of York in the polytunnel.
There comes a reasonable crop nice and early but the tuber size is quite average while the shaws grow enormously.
Does anyone know what we might do to get less shaw growth and more to the tubers.
They are planted about 4 to 6 inches deep at 1 foot spacings and are regularily heaped.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
B

I have similar experience with flowering plants - huge foliage! I have done a little bit of reading about it and it seems that it depends partly on the light that the plastic cover allows through. If the plastic allows more blue light through then the plant will have less foliage.

Other than changing the cover, I don't know what else can be done. Can tattie shaws be pruned?

I have grown in polly tunnels and it has a bit to do with the light .
I have never had much luck with spuds as you say the tops just go leggy as if reaching for the light .I suppose it is a compramise to have an early crop ,but not so many.
